Jessica's first month at Nauvoo

Here are a few pictures from Jessica's first month at Nauvoo. She works at many of the site buildings as well as the Visitor Center. She has been able to go on a road trip to Keokuk, IA to work at a Nauvoo booth during a Civil War battle reenactment. She also gets to work with the Nauvoo Restoration, Inc.

New Kitchen

Sherrie got a new kitchen for her birthday. The cabinets are the original but new cabinets knobs, granite countertop, stainless steel sink, faucets, tile backsplash, under cabinet lighting and bar stools. She also got rid of the covered kitchen light and replaced it with brighter cloud lights. Needless to say, she is pretty happy!

April 29th

It snowed today--a typical spring event in Idaho. We have not dared to plant the garden yet; hopefully in another week or two.

Jessica is doing well. Here is a paragraph from here latest letter:

Well, I can tell that you are curious as to what I am doing. I was in the W. Woodruff house, but the way the schedual works is that we are in a different assignment every day from 11 to 5. the morning we usually do studies and a combined preparation meeting with the oldies (whom I LOVE by the way) and then we get to work. If we are serving in a house or an actual site like the postoffice, print shop, bakery, etc, then we will wear our pioneer dresses. A white apron with the houses, and a colored apron for all the other sites. However, instead of serving in a site, we may be assigned to work at the NVC, or the Nauvoo Visitor Center. We wear regular proselyting clothes there and work from 11 to 5 as well. Those hours won't stay though. In a week or something the summer hours will start kicking in and the sites and NVC will be open from 9 to 7...to accomidate for the hoards of people that will start coming through here. So far, the sites that I have served in are W. Woodruff twice, the 70's hall, John Taylor, and Heber C. Kimball. We also have a day of the week that we have a service prodject all day with Nauvoo Restoration Inc.. I really like those days because we are able to do some great ol' manual labor. This week I was able to test out my skills with some dremel tools...it was AWESOME!!!

Jessica MTC pictures

Here are a few of Jessica when she was at the MTC. She is now in Nauvoo and I'll post images as they come in.

Learning animals and body parts

It has been a long time since the last posts. Lily is growing and we are having fun watching her via Skype. What a wonderful technology to have when your family is widely dispersed. We visited Stephanie and Trent during spring break. It was great to see them.

Jessica is now in Nauvoo and getting ready for the tourist season. We love hearing from here; she is such a joy.

July 5, 2009

While up at Camp Loll Jessica, Spencer and I did some hiking. Even though the mosquitos were thick we did a trail south of the park as well as one onto the central plateau of Yellowstone. When Sherrie and I got home there was still hail in the shade garden (this despite a 90 degree day)! Now that's a lot of hail!

July 4, 2009

While I went to Camp Loll to see Spencer, Sherrie went the annual Sara reunion in Mantua. On her way home she stopped in Inkom and at our house to get some things to bring up to the townhouse in Victor. She was met with an amazing site. Inkom was flooded with water, mud and tree debris everywhere, and when she got home she found 4 inches of hail surrounding our house! Apparently a severe thunder storm cell had just gone overhead. Our garden, flowers, and many of our plants where pulverized by the hail. Many of the trees are partially stripped of their leaves; the worst was the Italian prune tree. It will be interesting to see what grows back.

Spencer is doing well. He is settling in to his teaching responsibilities at Camp Loll. During the skits he is Franz of "Hanz and Franz" fame. That is him flexing at a flag ceremony. The mosquitos where incredibly thick; it is suprising he has any blood left!!
